Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions From Teachers

Should we prepare students prior to the workshop?

Our workshop is designed to be effective regardless of any prior preparation by the students. Educational institutions utilise the workshop in diverse ways; some opt to employ it as the sole framework for studying Buddhism, Hinduism or Sikhism, while others integrate it as an introduction, midpoint, or conclusion to their course curriculum.

Do you charge for the workshops and travel?

Since BHS Edu has no charity status, we unfortunately do have service charges for the two presenters visiting your establishment.  To make it more fare, we charge by the hour, enabling the school to decide how much they can afford.  However, there are no additional charges above those quoted on our FEES tab.  We also pay for the overnight accommodation and hotels ourselves.

May I adjust my lesson plans?

On the day of the workshop, we kindly request that school staff adhere to the agreed schedule, as we have tailored lesson plans and prepared necessary equipment accordingly. However, we are open to discussing modifications to the programme in the days leading up to the visit. Our standard protocol involves emailing a proposed programme based on the details provided in your booking request form. This proposal is typically sent four weeks prior to the scheduled visit, or subsequently if the booking is made at a later date.

Upon receiving the proposed programme, you are encouraged to communicate any adjustments that may be required, and we will promptly revise the programme to accommodate your specifications. The most efficient method for conveying these changes is to indicate them on the Agreement Form we provide and return it to us via email.

How many presenters do you send?

As a rule we send a male and female presenter, although occasionally one may come at no change of cost to the school.  Alone or with a partner, our presenters are skilled and experienced at managing the smooth running of the day.

Can I reschedule or cancel at any time?

RESCHEDULING: After you have firmly booked a date, you can reschedule at any time without a cancelation charge, although if a non-refundable hotel booking has been made in connection with your booking, we will need to ask for reimbursement of those hotel costs.

Our cancelation policy is as follows:

CANCELING: If a school cancels a firm booking for a BHS workshop later than 15 business days before the date of the workshop, there will be a cancelation charge of £65.00.  If the school cancels within 30 hours of the workshop date, a further charge for the travel cost will be incurred due to BHS staff having already travelled to the school hotel

We generally do not charge schools for hotel bookings made in direct connection with our workshops unless there is a two day booking whereby we can reduce travel costs and book a second night whereby the school is charged.

The first night is always paid out for from our own funds and the second and third night are paid for by the school.  Generally, the hotel fees are non-refundable by the hotel company, which is usually a Travelodge, Ibis, Days Inn, Premier Inn or hotel on Booking.com.

Therefore, if a hotel room has been paid for in connection with a cancelled BHS workshop, the school that is cancelling will be responsible to reimburse BHS Educational Workshops for the hotel cancellation

This charge also contributes to our financial losses incurred by forgoing the booking date that other schools may have wanted to book.

What about refunds?

Payment is generally not due until after the workshop has taken place, so refunds are not usually an issue.  However, if a refund is due, we will process it promptly.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, we have public liability insurance with Hiscox Insurance Ltd with an indemnity limit of £1,000,000.  We may carry a copy of our insurance certificate to the school for your inspection if requested.

Are your presenters vetted by DBS?

Yes, all our presenters are vetted by the Disclosure and Barring Service and cleared to work with children.  Our presenters all carry with them to the school their current DBS document along with ID for your inspection.
