Visitor Information:
The individuals visiting your institution will consist of one male and one female educator, both possessing current Enhanced DBS documentation and identification.
Activity Overview:
The workshop will involve engaging activities for the children. Participants will be invited to remove their footwear and sit cross-legged on a large cloth placed on the floor. Some children, alongside staff members, may don costumes and undergo face painting. The children will also participate in basic mime-style performance and dance.
During our workshops conducted in educational settings, it is essential to identify potential risk factors while ensuring the presenter adheres to the necessary precautions to mitigate these risks:
1. Use of Incense:
Incense sticks will be lit at the commencement of the session as children enter the presentation area. There exists a risk of ignition should children’s clothing come into contact with the sparks during demonstrations. Lighters will be securely stored out of sight and reach of students of all ages.
2. Concerns Regarding Religious Indoctrination:
Given the educational focus on Hinduism, some parents may express concerns about their children being exposed to practices associated with a faith outside of their own. We assure you that our presenters are meticulously trained to deliver content within an educational framework.
3. Music and Dance Module:
During these modules, children may be asked to remove their socks if the floor is shinny or slippery. This is to avoid sliding into one another or slipping and hurting themselves during the dance module.
The following guidelines are strictly adhered to:
a. Children will not engage in acts of worship, but rather will participate solely in cultural activities. Should any act of worship be demonstrated, it will be conducted solely by the presenter, for illustrative purposes only.
b. Regarding yoga and meditation, it is acknowledged that while many practitioners do not attribute religious significance to these activities, sensitivity exists among some families. Thus, our approach will exclude yoga and meditation instruction. Instead, we will introduce a breath control exercise known as pranayama, which serves as a preparatory tool for relaxation. The presenter will explicitly clarify that this is a breathing exercise performed prior to meditation.
c. When discussing philosophical concepts or religious beliefs, the presenter will introduce their statements with the phrase “Hindus say ...” to distinctly communicate that the ideas being shared are from a specific tradition, and to clarify that there is no expectation for students to adopt these beliefs.
